Chalk Art
Dating back to 16th century Italy, the Madonnari (named for their paintings of the Madonna during religious festivals) were artists who were often hired to paint murals in the country's beautiful cathedrals. After the work was finished, they took to drawing on the streets to make money from passing people tossing coins onto the artwork.
I was drawn to street painting as another way to express my creativity, but also for its ephemeral nature. People often ask if I get sad to see my finished artwork stepped on or washed away. I always tell them the fact that it's temporary only serves to make you appreciate it more in those fleeting moments you have with it. I often have the opportunity to take the street painting indoors and use chalk to create beautiful temporary murals in client's homes or for special events.
